Thanks for stopping by!WorshipInDepth theologically evaluates current worship music so that the worship in our churches engages the whole person and community in depth. I hope you will find it a valuable resource. New content will be added frequently, so come back and visit often. If there's something you would like to see, please let me know!
The method employed considers both ancient and modern forms of worship as gifts to the body of Christ. Read more about my methods and hope for this website here. For non-Lutherans...This is a website/resource written by a Lutheran using Lutheran theological tools…for everyone. Some of the content is written particularly with Lutheran churches in mind, but not to the point of excluding anyone else! My hope is that no matter what your church affiliation is, you will find this a valuable resource for taking theological reflection seriously in relation to contemporary worship music. I welcome your dialogue and feedback.

About Matt:I am a pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Victorville, CA, and a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary. I have also done post-graduate work at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. I have been leading worship in various contexts -- including churches of many varieties both Lutheran and not, camps, conferences, retreats, coffee shops, dorm rooms, bars, clubs, etc. -- for over a decade. I also write music (worship and otherwise), which you can check out here. And I preach, speak, and lead workshops. If you're interested in having me for any of these purposes, contact me.

For Lutherans…
This resource is not intended to be an alternative to Evangelical Lutheran Worship or any other hymnal your church uses. It is, however, intended to supplement it. As much as ELW made strides forward toward including various types of music, there is a whole category that it barely touches. The worship style that is often called “contemporary” or "modern" in our churches is in dire need of theological reflection. This website is intended to start a conversation to that end.
